Was a fun day, started with a fire at breakfast courtesy of @kbsymington.

The day was fairly smokey to the east but cleared off nicely for us heading back over Sunset Pass.

Only three of us returned to the car as @sio.mellors and a friend headed east over Pinto and Owen Passes to exit at Owen Creek, 13 hrs to complete a 23km hike over somewhat or maybe it is very rough terrain.

For us the blue skies came out providing us with a spectacular view for lunch.

It was a excellent little two trip and with any luck we will camp again at Pinto Lake this summer as we hike the Jaspwr South Boundary Trail, extending it south through the Cataract and out Owens Creek.

Last backpacking trip of 2023, fun overnight trip to Pinto Lake just outside of Banff NP, Day 1 summary up on Bootwreckers, see link in bio.

The trip started out as a three day trip to do the Northover Ridge in Kanananaskis but wildfire smoke had us making new plans.

We settled on just a two day trip to Pinto Lake, one because it was north of the fires and there was suppose to be less smoke and two, you do not need to book the campground which makes it good for a last minute destination.

You do have to get an Alberta Public Camping pass, but it is not date specific.

The hike took on special meaning for me as it was the first time I went backpacking with Kylie since 1993!!

We had a great time on the trail. Yes it was a little smokey, but not too bad.

Amazing day hike we did last summer during our camping trip to Waterton NP, the Carthew-Alderson hike from Cameron Lake to Cameron Falls for summary on www.bootwreckers.com see link in bio.

This was our biggest hike of the year at just under 20km and is Margaux's longest hike to date.

To accomplish the point to point hike we utilized a shuttle operate by The Tamarack, @tamarack_outdoors_

The day was a little hot and there was a lack of shade on parts of the trail due to the massive Kenow Wildfire of 2017.

The hike met all of our expectations and of course Margaux was a 🌟.

This ended up being a bit shorter day than planned as smoke rolled in and put a damper on the trip.

Margaux was stellar on the trail making new friends at every turn.

Margaux always falls asleep on the way home and I can never resist making fun of her.

Her reward was sausages mixed in with her kibble when we got home.

Looking forward to more backpacking trips in 2024 with The Margs.

Margaux's last camping trip of 2023 was a quick overnighter to Yoho NP to explore the western end of the park and complete the hike over th Whaleback. The trip was suppose to be three days but smoke blew in so we went home. See ary on Bootwreckers, link in bio.

Even though it was a late summer weekend I was able to plan a last minute trip to Yoho NP by repeated checking the Parks Canada reservations page and hoping for cancelations. Hope is not usually a successful strategy to lean on but it worked for this trip.

The first day was a short 6km hike to Twin Falls CG. With Margaux at lead we finished the hike in less an hour and a half.

The campground was quiet but there was a family and doodle present when we arrived and a few groups trickled through the evening.

Twin Falls CG is in a beautiful setting and we spent a relaxing just being out in nature.

It is always good to be out on trail, Margaux makes it better.

This was a short and frantic day as we rushed to beat the heat and get away from the smoke that was rolling in.

The major obstacle for the day was a very long suspension bridge. I was worried Margaux would be unsettled by the bridge but she flew over it like a superstar.

Once back to the car Margaux had a relaxing ride home but she did get a rawhide donut as a treat.

It was an amazing few days on the trail meeting new friends and spending quality time with The Margs. Margaux never ceases to impress me with how willing she is to do new things and how amazing she is in new environments.

It was going to be another hot day so we hit the trail early and as with Margaux we went hard.

The Rockwall is a wonderful place to hike and for the most part is pretty easy trail.

We met several groups on the trail and they all thought Margaux was marvelous.

We arrived at Tumbling Creek CG before lunch.

A quiet afternoon lead to a fun evening with new friends.

Only one more day left but it involves crossing a 100ft suspension bright. The planning dominated the after dinner activities at Tumbling Creek.

Day 1 and preamble for Margaux's adventure on the Rockwall in Kootenay NP, see link in Bio.

The plan was for a three day two night hike on the Rockwall beginning and ending at the Paint Pots near Marble Canyon.

The biggest challenge on this hike was that we got hit by a heat wave. I avoided the heat by hiking early, and as always with Margaux, FAST!

We had three amazing days on the Rockwall and met some great people and made some amazing memories.

Day started out a little wet but that didn't stop us heading out on the trails. We headed for Linda Lake and Morning Glory Lake.

One of the goals today was to see the flowers and we were not disappointed.

We planned to take the 2:30 pm shuttle back to the car so we only had time for a half day hike.

The sun came out towards the end of the hike making for a fitting bookend to our time at Lake O'Hara.

We have more trails to explore at Lake O'Hara and we plan to return but we are grateful for the time we got to spend at such a wonderful place.

Still catching up on trips from 2022. Finally put together a post on Bootwreckers about our three day trip to Lake O'Hara, see link in bio.

Laura had been wanting to go to Lake O'Hara for over a decade. I have been to Lake O'Hara in the late 90's on an Alpine Club of Canada trip and stayed at the Elizabeth Parker Hut, but i have a lot of memories of rain and clouds. We all got on our computers the day reservations opened and managed to secure two trips, one for Laura and I and one for @sio.mellors.

We did three days and two nights at the campground. The weather cooperated just enough, we did get rain on day 3 but not really that much.

We did three hikes, Lake Oesa, Lake McArthur and Morning Glory/Linda Lakes.

We have more to see at Lake O'Hara so in a couple of years we will need to return for some new adventures.

This was an easy day hiking downhill to Laughing Falls then following the Yoho River back to the car.

Margaux was awesome as always on the trail.

The trail was very quiet at first but the foot traffic picked up as we got closer to the car. We did have to get off trail when another dog came the other way but Margaux kept her attention on us.

Still hard to believe it had only been 7 weeks since Margaux adopted us.

There has been more backpacking adventures for Margaux since and many more to come.

Was a perfect day for a hike on the Iceline in Yoho NP. Margaux was stellar the entire time, except maybe when that marmot charged across the trail in front of her.

It is always special to view Takakkaw Falls from an elevated vantage point. Not sure Margs really appreciated it tho.

We had a brilliant campsite at Little Yoho CG. We spent thr majority of the evening sitting by the river.

There was a doodle in camp and they both had a short but intense play, on leash of course.

After a big day Margaux settled down in the tent quickly.

How will Margaux handle a second night on the trail? Then its just one more day to go.

Amazing day to start off the trip. Short 5km hiked to Yoho Lake Campground. Blue skies overhead and a lazy start made for a group of happy hikers.

Margaux did great on the hike and she even ignored the two dogs that were in camp.

After dinner we spent the evening taking in the view on the Parks Canada Red Chairs.

Margaux came into the tent willingly and settled down pretty quickly, but was snuggled up as close to me as she could get.

All in a great start to the trip.

This is a post about Margaux's first ever backpacking trip. Actually it is a tail of two trips. The first part of the story is up on Bootwrecker see link in bio.

The plan was to take Margaux on our annual backpacking trip, for this year 2022, it was to be hiking the Iceline in Yoho NP. But we didn't know if Margaux could handle all the sights, sounds and smells of a backpacking trip plus sleeping in a tent.

We had only brought Margaux home 7 weeks prior and she had been surrendered due to reactivity.

So I did a little overnight trip to Quaite Valley Campground with Margaux as an experiment to see if Margaux could handle backpacking. She passed with an Excelling Plus.

Before heading out to Yoho, we did practice with Margaux carrying her own backpack.

She is such a 🌟

With my trip ending a little early I spent the last couple of days doing Trail Magic, full story up on Bootwreckers, see link in bio.

I stayed the night utilizing the primitive camping area at Picketpost Mt. Arizona sunsets are amazing.

I did two days of Trail Magic. I purchased 14 pops (known locally as sodas) and bags of chips each day and hung out at two different trailheads for the AZT. The thru hikers coming by were always appreciative of the extra calories with flavour.

After I headed back to Phoenix to begin my trip home.

I love traveling and hiking in Arizona, not sure when I will get back but I will go back soon(ish).

Day 3 (and final day) of my hike on the Arizona Trail finishing Passage 15, see link in bio.

Had just under 20 miles to hike. Was a great day on trail. After finishing hiking the high desert reentered canyon country which was followed by a quick climb for amazing views from the high point.

The hike ended with what can only be described as a cacophony of flowers. A simply amazing way to finish the hike.

Now I have to figure out which Passages I can hike next and when....good problem to have.

Day 2 of my Arizona Trail Passages 14 15 hike is up on Bootwreckers.

Big day, 36 km's, but was super fun over varied terrain and some more Trail Magic when I arrived at the beginning of Passage 15 at Freeman Road.

Hiked almost until sundown, but managed to find a slightly sheltered spot to block some of the very fierce desert wind.

Love hiking in Arizona, next time I will make sure I tape up my heels before I start.
